Spring Transition

There is something about the transition from winter to spring that gives many of us the urge to shake things up and change them around.

The first bright day of spring sunshine can mean we suddenly see the dirty windows or the dusty shelves that we haven’t noticed on dark winter evenings.

We sense the days becoming lighter, and the energy shifting from a time of hibernation to a time of awakening and growth.

It’s good to find ways to mark the change of season from dark to light, both in terms of bringing the brightness of spring into your home and by considering which parts of your life could do with a bit of fresh energy and focus.

Rise With The Sun Ritual

Most of us only pause to watch the sunrise we are on holiday somewhere beautiful, but the sun rises and sets every day no matter where you are. Even if you are not able to see the horizon from inside your home, you can still find a place where the sunlight can reach you.

For one week, try to rise with the sun each morning. This is easiest to practice in the early part of spring, before the sun rises super early.

Find out the sunrise times for the week you choose and set your alarm to wake you a few minutes earlier. Don’t switch on any lights – or grab your phone

– when you wake up. Instead, just notice what the light is like before the sun comes up.

Sit quietly and watch the light begin to come in. Notice how the room changes as the sun gets higher. Feel the light of the sun on your skin – even if there is no warmth in it, can you sense your body responding?

Take a moment to feel connected to the daily cycle of dark and light. Be grateful for all that the sun brings to us – warmth, light, the growth of plants, the entire ecosystem that supports us.

Scrub Away The Winter Ritual

Spring is a time when we feel the urge to shed the heavy layers of winter clothing, and show a bit more of ourselves to the world. We might get a haircut or a pedicure so we are ready for the long-awaited sunshine. Even the birds change their colours at this time of year; it’s part of the natural cycle.

In many traditions, before everyone had their own bathroom at home, the change of seasons was the time for people to gather together at the hammam or the bath house for a seasonal cleanse.

We love to use our Restart 1-UP bath soak as a scrub before showering. It feels like we’re scrubbing away the old season and making ourselves fresh and clean for the new. It’s like shedding your old skin.

The pink Himalayan salt, the coconut milk, and the essential oil of lavender, among its many other ingredients, make an excellent recipe for transitioning into spring.
